Please see locked back as this is the same problem but occurring in your neck.  This is painful but not serious and will usually clear up in a few days. Heat helps, so wearing a silk scarf is advisable.  

If it is accompanied by tingling, pain or numbness in one of your arms or hands this is more severe and will probably not settle unless treated.

If you are having wry necks often, even without arm symptoms, you should consider Osteopathic treatment to diagnose and treat the underlying cause, which is usually stiffness in the other neck or upper back joints.
