Waiting…

Choreographer and solo performer Joanna Young, composer James Williams and the Mavron String Quartet have collaborated to create ‘Waiting…’ a site-specific performance installation at tactileBOSCH.

Through intricate choreography and a live string quartet a world is created where repetition and stark sadness becomes despondently beautiful.  Inspired by a series of photos entitled IN AND AROUND THE HOUSE by Laurie Simmons and Faith Wilding’s ‘Waiting’.

The journey of ‘Waiting…’ began in 2007 when I was working with Dance Artist Sarah Eldin.  We co-choreographed a solo, which we were invited to perform at The Place Robin Howard Dance Theatre in January 2008.  I continued to perform the solo throughout the year and chose to recreate it as a site-specific performance installation at tactileBOSCH.

Running time 1 hour

“She moves with expressive force, giving this dance a sense of direction even as she waits. It’s a confident piece, with a distinctive atmosphere.”

— Zoë Anderson, Resolution! 2008

“Young’s highly esoteric dancing, honest and laconic in it’s expression placed the audience under her control, and it undeniably deserved a full house.”

— Vago Tedosio

“Compelling and complete”

— Pip Lawrence
